Non-Jews Are Not Beasts And Do Not Need To Serve Us.
The Quote
“Jehovah created the non-Jew in human form so that the Jew would not have to be served by beasts. The non-Jew is consequently an animal in human form, and condemned to serve the Jew day and night.”
Nidrasch Talpioth, p. 225-L
The Reality
Midrash Talpioth is a work that was written in the late 1600s or early 1700s by Eliyahu son of Shlomo Avraham the Kohen.
This work is not a part of the Talmud and is, in fact, quite obscure. In all my years of learning, I have never seen a physical copy in a study hall and never seen it cited elsewhere. In fact, the only place I see it mentioned is in lists of fake Talmud “quotes.” In short, this book is not authoritative in any way.
In any event, I have found a copy on line (here). I’ve searched around page 225 (I have no idea what the “L” reference refers to — the work is not organized in that way) and found nothing even remotely like the quote mentioned.
In reality, the quote is completely fake. The biggest tip off that the quote is fake is the name of God used in the quote. No rabbi or religious Jewish author would use that name.
Summary:
A fake quote from an obscure and rarely studied book (that is not in the Talmud) that no one considers authoritative in any way. Even if the quote did exist, it would simply be one person’s opinion and not something that is considered authoritative in any way.
